Fire Retardancy and Fire Retardancy Materials
Four levels of fire retardancy materials are available depending
on the
customers application.
They are defined in 'Resin systems to BS 476: Part 7'
The degree of fire retardancy in the material supplied by Envico
is
measured by the surface spread of flames test (British Standard
476 part 7)
These are:
General Purpose. Where no particular fire rating is required;
a lower cost material is available.
Class 2. Flame spread no greater than 215 mm in the first 1
½ minutes and an overall spread of no more
than 455 mm in ten minutes.
Class 1. Flame spread no greater than 165 mm in ten minutes.
Class 0. Normal Building Regulation rating
and not a British Standard
Classification. It must meet Class 1 for spread of flames and
also meet the fire propagation requirements of BS 476 Part 6.
